“Pokemon Infinite Fusion” is a game that allows players to fuse two Pokemon together in order to make them stronger or to patch up the weaknesses of the Pokemon who are fused. Pokemon Showdown is a website that allows players to battle Pokemon online with anyone else, as long as they have internet access. It is the unofficial website of Pokemon team building, battling and competitive gameplay. Recently, a mod for Pokemon Showdown has come out, allowing players to fuse with the mechanics and community of “Pokemon Infinite Fusion.” This was attempted once before on a smaller scale, but it fell apart. Now it is back with an active community behind it.
Pokemon Showdown itself has dozens of game modes to choose from, ranging anywhere between generation nine OU, to generation three random battles, to crazy custom modes like hackmons, which allow players to make illegal Pokemon and battle with them. These names might not mean much to someone who does not understand them, so allow a quick explanation.
There are core game modes like AG, OU, UU, NU and PU, as well as LC. There are all abbreviations, standing for Anything Goes, Over-Used, Under-Used, Never-Used, Perfectly-Useless and Little Cup. Anything Goes is for the super powerful Pokemon that break normal gameplay. Over-Used and Under-Used are for good Pokemon and mediocre Pokemon respectively, and Never-Used is for Pokemon that might fill a niche, but have better counterparts. Perfectly-Useless is for the Pokemon that simply do not have a foothold in the battling format, and Little Cup is for baby Pokemon, which are very rarely used in higher formats. There are also random battles, which give players a random selection of Pokemon with preset moves and items for competitive battling.
While the Infinite Fusion showdown mod only has seven game modes so far, the admins are working on adding random battles and more in the future. In fact, there is a Google form that has been posted in the “Pokemon Infinite Fusion” community Discord which people can submit presets to for random battles, making it a community-involved game mode.
Some Pokemon are unusable, but have a good ability, like Bidoof. It has the simple ability, which doubles every stat raise or decrease. However, when fused with a strong and fast Pokemon like Dragonite, it gains access to the move dragon dance, which, with simple, allows it to boost its attack and speed both by two stages. Combining that with moves like extreme speed and dragon claw, through the power of fusion, Bidoof becomes an absolute menace. This is merely one example of hundreds of weak Pokemon that can become aces with fusion.
