For my spring break this year I went back to my home state of Virginia and hometown of Newport News, located about 20 minutes east of Colonial Williamsburg. This was a different trip for me because I was going to be flying alone. Neither of my parents could make it due to their schedules, so I got to learn how to travel on my own.

While on this trip, I took a little detour to the DC area to visit with my cousin, Ryan, his wife, Ariella, and their son Finn. I was so happy to see them because I have not seen them in over two years. I had a lot of fun with them. Ryan made great food, which I expect because he is a trained chef. I also got to learn what Finn is doing in school and got to help Arielle with some home decor. After spending a few days with them, I drove to Newport News where I arrived at my aunt’s house, which is where I stayed for the next week and a half. 

She and I decided to visit some of our favorite shops over this trip, including the historical Hilton Village in downtown Newport News which has several bakeries, a theater, cute little boutiques, and old colonial townhomes. We both have a really bad shopping addiction. Several nights of this trip we went down to the pier nearby and the beachfront. We also traveled to Oyster Point center, which has a pretty similar circle as we do here in downtown Indianapolis. We also went out to eat seafood at the local Crab Stack which is on the oceanfront.

After my week and a half in Newport News was over, we drove back to Arlington, in the D.C. area. To stay with my cousin for a few more days before I had to fly back. While we were back they had Finn’s Minecraft-themed birthday party, which is apparently the only birthday theme eight-year-olds care about. This information is coming straight from Finn himself. I definitely learned a lot of Minecraft and Legos in the last few days of my trip. 

But, overall this was a great way to spend my spring break and I can’t wait to go back in the summer!
