MR. Jarman will only be spending half of his day at the high school this year. The rest of his time will be spent in the middle school athletic office.

Room B115 will be dark, with the doors shut and locked after 11:30 each morning this school year. Mr. Jarman, one of Mt. Vernon’s business teachers and a former assistant football coach, will now be found at the middle school for the second half of the school day, fulfilling his new duties as assistant athletic director.

“I’m finishing up my administrator’s license right now, which would be my second Masters Degree in Education. As part of that, we have to do what’s known as a practicum, which is applied practice of administrative duties,” said Mr. Jarman.

With Mr. Cole, the athletic director at the middle school, being absent from the school from time to time this year, the district found a spot for Mr. Jarman to help him keep things running smoothly, and he’ll also be lending a hand to Mr. Shipley, MVMS principal.

Unfortunately for Mr. Jarman, the move from full-time teacher to part-time administrator is accompanied by sad news. He will no longer be able to help coach the high school football team this season.

“The kids are just amazing, [I’ll miss] the kids that are willing to put in so much effort, so much time, and so much work. I’m going to miss Friday nights, but not nearly as much as just everyday practice.”

In the end, he is happy with how things are looking for his career in educational administration.

“I think this is a good start, and it’s a good fit for where I’m at right now. But I can see that affecting more kids on a daily basis is really where I want to go.”

Mr. Jarman knows that it’s not just about one classroom full of students, it’s about all of them.
