On December 1st, an actor nominated for his role in the 2007 film ¨Juno,¨ announced on Twitter and Instagram that he is transgender. Elliot Page, 33, is currently starring as Vanya in Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” and shared in an Instagram post further revelations about his gender identity. 

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot,” he wrote. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.” 

In his post, Page continued to express that he feels overwhelmed with “gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey…I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.”

Page came out as gay in February of 2014 and married Emma Portner in 2018. Portner is nothing but supportive of her partner, commenting “Love you so much elliot,” on the actor’s Instagram post. 

Page’s revelations even gained the attention of the GLADD. In a statement, Director of Transgender Media, Nick Adams, said Elliot Page, “will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people. All transgender people deserve the chance to be othemselvesand to be accepted for who we are. We celebrate the remarkable Elliot Page today.”

Page’s announcement makes him one of the most prominent trans actors in Hollywood along with the familiar talent of Laverne Cox of Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” and Trace Lysette of Amazon’s “Transparent.”
