Conan Gray is a pop music singer-songwriter. He started his career on Youtube and on November 16, 2018, he released his first EP “Sunset Season,” which has been streamed over 300 million times. 

Most recently he released his debut album “Kid Krow” on March 20, 2020. On the album, there are twelve tracks and five of those were released before the album release date as singles. The album offers a collection of diverse songs from sad to angry, slow to upbeat, and resentful to nostalgic.

The artist was barely known before he started releasing his debut album, but all of a sudden his audience expanded to be much larger. His single “Maniac” expanded his fame and currently has over 100 million listens on Spotify. It is also being played on radio stations. Then because of that, once his debut album was released it did very well because of his now-expanded audience. Now people are starting to notice his talent.

“I really like the way his voice flows with the beat,” said Kendall Lansel, 11. “I really like the song ‘Little League’ because it reminds me of being young and not worrying about anything, just having fun being a kid.”

“Little League” is the second to last track on the album. It details the sensation of being young. It mentions thinking back to it and missing a much less complicated time. Since the album has a variety of sounds and topics it is able to appeal to more people. While this song is more positive, there are other songs like “The Cut That Always Bleeds” which is much more somber.

The album debuted at the number one spot in pop and number five spot overall. It was the second most-bought album the week that it came out. “Kid Krow” became the top debut album in over two years. He was also made Apple Music’s Up Next Artist. The album was even noticed by Taylor Swift, who praised it on social media.

Overall the album is very well-produced and personally I am touched by the songs on the album because they are so heartfelt and raw. My favorite song on the album is “The Cut That Always Bleeds,” which expresses the feeling of being taken advantage of and used.
