Here come the Grammys. Hosted on January 26, 2020 the Grammys were broadcast to people around the country. Many people excitedly attended in hopes of seeing their favorite actors and music artists. With the excitement and the fun, some fans had the times of their lives.

Many musical artists went home that night with a Grammy award: a golden gramophone. Billie Eilish went home with five Grammys, taking home the titles of Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. She excitedly accepted each award with gratitude towards her fans. However, Billie Eilish told fans that she thought singer Ariana Grande should’ve won the award for Album of the Year.

Another upcoming artist, Lil Nas X, won many awards for his hit song “Old Town Road,” which skyrocketed up music charts. He took home the title of Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video. He shared his awards with country singer Billy Ray Cyrus.

However, the night was not all dry eyes. The morning of the Grammys, basketball player Kobe Bryant, along with daughter Gianna Bryant and seven others, were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Kobe Bryant was 41, and played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 seasons. He was honored at the event with his jerseys displayed and singer Lizzo and many others dedicating their songs to the fallen player.

“I was watching the show and broke into tears. The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow and I was glad that Kobe Bryant was honored. Many amazing people performed and it was a great show to watch,” said Ryan Moran, 10.

This year’s Grammys was a night to remember, with breakthroughs in music and a memoriam for a fallen player. Many will never forget the night of the Grammys.
