On October 26th, U.S. Forces carried out a raid to kill ISIS, the Islamic State in Syria leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. 

Trump announced on the following Sunday morning, “Last night was a great night for the United States and for the world. A brutal killer, one who has caused so much hardship and death, has violently been eliminated,”

The raid took place at al-Baghdadi’s compound in Northern Syria. It consisted of eight U.S military helicopters carrying Elite U.S soldiers. While flying to the location the helicopters were met with gunfire from the locals in the area. 

When U.S soldiers arrived at the compound, they breached a wall to avoid any traps around the entrance and after that is when things got chaotic. According to Trump, a large number of ISIS militants were killed during the raid while U.S forces only faced a couple minor injuries. 

The raid, however, ended when leader al-Baghdadi was chased by K-9 units chased al-Baghdadi down a tunnel which resulted in a dead-end. Baghdadi ignited his suicide vest which brutally killed him and the three children he carried with him. 

Immediately after, the soldiers conducted a DNA test. The test was conducted to make sure the body was actually al-Baghdadi’s. With a DNA testing kit that was brought with them on the operation that contained a former DNA sample of al-Baghadi to confirm it was actually in fact him, and it was.
