Shyamalan’s Golden Era

More stories from Grant Hess

“Signs” is a really good film. Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, it is a true masterpiece. “Signs” was made back in the time, before “Avatar the Last Airbender,” when he actually had talent.

To give you a little peek at what is to come, it is true suspense. It has no jump scares and no useless rambling about backstories.

The plot is about crop circles which appear out in the middle of nowhere, and nobody knows what is going on. At first, they think it is some neighborhood kids and who are just messing around; that is, until Grant, the main character, and a former minister catches a glance of one of the aliens out in the crop field.

One of the cool things that this film does is it never actually shows you a full view of the alien or if it does it is never direct, it is always a reflection or a picture.

Caleb Ikalina, 12, said “I really hate jump scares. It is a good thing that this film has none of those, it is refreshing.”

To be sure I would give it 5 out of 5 stars.
