With the end of the 2018-2019 school year coming up, there is a lot to be figured out before actually beginning college. For some people it’s choosing a college and a major, for some it’s choosing a career and for some, it’s choosing whether they will continue their sports career or if high school is where it will come to a close
Cade Gentry is a senior who will be mixing academics and athletics next year. Gentry has committed to the Anderson University to play basketball and major in biology.
“I visited many different colleges and got a feel for each of them,” said Gentry. “I talked to professors, coaches, and admissions counselors at each university and asked a lot of questions. After all of the visits, I felt the most home at Anderson. As soon as I left the campus for the first time I knew that is where I wanted to go.”
Gentry has always had dreams of playing college basketball and is thankful that Anderson University is giving him that opportunity to play for the next four years.
While some varsity basketball players have already committed, some are still on the hunt for their college.
“I have considered attending Ball State, UIndy, IUPUI, and Anderson University,” said Lindsay Hartl, 12. “I have not committed to a certain college yet.”
Whether basketball will continue for these Marauders, playing for MVHS has taught them many skills that they can use in their daily life.
“I learned to become more disciplined, and it has taught me how to manage my time. I have learned to set goals and to be determined whether in school, future jobs, or whatever it may be,” said Hartl. “My current coach, Coach Shelton, has impacted me greatly on these skills and has always said we could use everything we do in basketball in life.”
