ISSMA State Finals
On November 3, high school bands in four classes competed at the 46th Annual ISSMA State Finals held at Lucas Oil Stadium. Although MV Bands did not perform an exhibition at this, many of the band members came to watch and support the other bands.
For each class, 10 bands competed against each other for first place. The band in first place received a trophy and an American Dairy Association scholarship for one student in the band.
Each band that competed were one of the top ten bands of their class. Some classes have more than 100 bands. These bands have been working since May or June. A class is a ranking based on band size.
In open Class D, Forest Park Marching Bruin Band placed first. The runner-up was Spring Valley.
In open Class C, Forest Park Marching Rangers placed first. The runner-up was Spring Valley Marching Brigade.
In open Class B, Greenwood Central High School Marching Woodmen placed first. The runner-up was Greenfield-Central Marching Cougars.
In open Class A, Carmel Marching Band placed first. The runner-up was Avon Marching Black and Gold.
Each band in the classes worked extremely hard to place in the top ten of their respective class.
Ashley Wyman, 9, said, “There were a lot of good bands. I didn’t agree with some of the scoring or the judges’ comments, but the bands all did extremely well. Each band performed to their full potential and they really worked their hardest. I’m fairly proud of each of these bands, I can’t wait for the next finals.”
State Finals marks the end of marching band season for 2018.
