Freshmen working in English class.

The 2018-2019 school year has started and is now in full swing. While seniors look forward to their last homecoming, freshmen are looking forward to their first.

For many freshmen, the first year in the high school can be scary, but also very exciting. Luckily, upperclassmen have some words of wisdom to share.

Some upperclassmen are concerned about the smells they walk by in the hallway.

“Do everyone else around you a favor,” said Makenzie Gwaltney, 12. “Wear deodorant and shower everyday. Thank you.”

School is important now, as are activities.

“Do your homework.” said Dayton Jennings, 12. “And get involved, it is okay to put yourself out there.”

Other upperclassmen are more focused on style.

“Shoe game,” said Cody Allgood, 11. “Keep it up.”

Being the youngest in a school full of older peers is definitely a new experience for many.

“Being the freshman around underclassmen can be scary,” said Madison Helton, 9. “But it is different, and I like it.”

Helton says to make the most of it.

Following advice like this, freshmen will succeed in their first year in high school.
