Tips to survive the school year

  1. Do not procrastinate. It is true that some people are more efficient when the deadline for an assignment is rapidly approaching. However, most people are not as efficient if they do not plan well for assignments, and teachers can usually tell it has been hastily put together. If you do procrastinate, do not procrastinate to the point that homework and other important assigned work is turned in late.
  2. Just do the homework. It all adds up in the end. Even if you hate it, just do it. The opposite is also true: if you do not do the homework, more of the lower grades will fill up the gradebook. Then, it will be very difficult to bring your grades up, especially if your teachers assign very few assignments.
  3. Do not cheat. Teachers will find out in the end, and then your teachers may lose trust and confidence in you. Who knows? Maybe there will be very few teachers you can request teacher recommendations from later.
  4. For those who are more ambitious about credits, do not be too hard on yourselves. Mix the difficult classes with your easier classes so that you will not be as stressed.
  5. Try to take the classes you really want to take before your senior year because the classes you really want to take your senior year might not match up the way you want them to. Try to take them your sophomore or junior year, the most flexible years.
  6. Most of all, and to end on a positive note, enjoy your high school career. You will not be able to experience the high school lifestyle again after your time here. Stay friends with the people you want to, and meet new ones.
