Lovin’ summer

Summer break is right around the corner. No school, great weather, and…boredom? Many students find themselves without any activities to do over the summer.

“Sometimes during the summer, I feel conflicted because there’s no school, but there’s not much to do,” said Vivian Hoeppner, 11. “I am excited to walk my dog, though.”

Here are some fun ideas to beat the boredom this summer break.

  1. Go to a drive-in movie

Tibbs drive-in movie theatre is a classic drive-in movie theatre located in Indianapolis at 480 S Tibbs Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46241. Guests can enjoy double feature movies and flea markets on weekends. More information can be found on the website.

  1. Go to the swimming pool

The Alvin D. Brown Memorial swimming pool is a swimming pool located near Fortville at 591 E Water St Pendleton, IN 46064. There are free swims on Friday nights from 8:30-10:30 and $5 per swim all other hours.  More information can be found on the website.

  1. Berry picking

At Waterman’s Family Farm, strawberries, sugar snap peas, beets, sweet corn, peppers, tomatoes and pumpkins are grown and available for the “U-pick” program. The farm is open during strawberry season, June 1-June 20, from 9-7 pm. More information can be found on the website.

  1. Take pictures downtown

Grab some friends and head to downtown Indy to snag some cute pictures at Monument Circle or just along the streets. Dress it up or dress it down, either way, it is a great way to have some fun.

  1. Go hammocking

Have a camping hammock sitting around at home? Grab some friends and head to a local wooded park like Flat Fork Creek Park and string up your hammocks for a fun-filled afternoon.

  1. Pride parade

Get together with some LGBTQ or ally friends and go to the Indianapolis Pride Festival on June 9th. The festival lasts from 11am-11pm and includes two stages, a family fun zone, and hundreds of vendors. Tickets are on sale now on the Indy Pride Website.
