Students have been buzzing about a new club has been introduced to Mt. Vernon, and that new club is Bee Club. Student founder of Bee Club, Keian Gatewood, 11, has the answers to some basic questions, namely with what this new group is all about and what their plans are.

“Bee Club is a group of young up and coming beekeepers that I hope to show how to properly care for bees,” said Gatewood, “I want this club to show the importance of bees, and that people should not fear them.”

Gatewood also has mentioned how excited he is for the process to begin.

“I think I am most excited to actually get the hives on school grounds and harvest honey for the school,” said Gatewood.

This club will mainly meet after school with hive inspections after school or on weekends. The hives, as well as inspections, will be held near the retention pond behind Fortville Elementary. Members of this club are hoping to receive bees soon, but the hives arrived on Tuesday, May 8th, and the club has officially gotten started then.

Bee Club had a callout meeting for interested students already, but if students still want to join, speak to teacher sponsors of this club, Ms. Bravard-Johnson or Mr. McCallister.
