Club night

Friday, February 16, 2018, the boys basketball team played New Pal at home for senior night.
After the game, AfriCan sponsored Club Night in the cafeteria. It was five dollars to get in for a good time, snacks, and dancing.

AfriCan is a club at Mt. Vernon to  raise money for kids in Africa. With only two fundraisers a year, Club Night is really important for raising the money that the club needs to sponsor the clean water wells and schools in Nigeria that it does.

Mt. Vernon is the third highest donor in the organization’s 18 year history raising over 13,000 dollars for schools, clean drinking water, and playgrounds.

The president of AfriCan, Brooke Gilley, said, “Being apart of AfriCan has been an amazing experience… Not only is the whole organization about helping others, but we have the best times while doing it.”

Club Night, 2018, was a success, making over $772 this year. With a hired DJ and a night of dancing, Madison Smith, 12, said that Club Night “was a fun atmosphere.”

With a win for the basketball team and a profitable fundraiser, Mt. Vernon’s AfriCan club was able to keep providing for the schools that they support this year.
