On Saturday, February 3rd, girls’ swim sectionals were held at New Palestine High School.

Mt. Vernon girls’ team placed 2nd in the overall event, and the following swimmers are going to state:

Lydia Tierney, 12, for the 200 IM and 100 Fly.

Lydia Tierney, 12; Zoey Musick, 11; Riese Thornton, 10; Maddie Moore, 9, for the 200 medley.

“Sectionals was a fun experience, and it was a great time,” said Isabelle Granstaff, 11, who competed in sectionals. “We all ended in the top 16, and this is the first time this has ever happened. After the meet, we dyed the coaches hair because we did so well.”

The Mt Vernon divers also did very well during sectionals. They had sectionals on Saturday morning, before the swim sectionals, at New Palestine High School.

Halle Strege, 11, finished in 3rd place, and Gracesyn Thomas, 10, finished 4th. They both moved on to regionals.

“It was very exciting because I made it to regionals, but it was also nerve racking because I made it to regionals,” said Gracesyn Thomas, 10.
