Generation Conservation

Carly McWilliams, Features Editor

For teens with a passion for the great outdoors, the Indianapolis Zoo’s Generation Conservation program is taking applications for its 2018 season. Any 16-18 year old who is interested in wildlife and the natural world can apply to be a part of the team.

The program runs from February to September, with sessions one Saturday a month. These sessions provide hands-on experience to learn about conservation and help preserve the wildlife of Indiana. In the past, activities have included installing nest boxes for endangered hellbenders, monitoring camera traps to study urban wildlife, and planting native wildflowers to help pollinators. The program also give students the unique opportunity to work with organizations such as Butler University, Purdue University, the Indiana Wildlife Federation, and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.

The cost of the program is $150. Applications are due by December 31. To apply to the program, or find more information, visit http://www.indianapoliszoo.com/conservation-and-education/education/family-youth-experiences/saturday-science-programs.
