On October 15, 2017, famous musician Lil Peep passed away on his tour bus in Tucson, AZ. Lil Peep’s death by suspected overdose, not only shocked his fans, but brought up a heavy conversation of drug use and glorification in the rap world.

Lil Peep was credited for the revival of emo music in his own new style which was dubbed, emo rap. Starting out on Spotify, Peep gained many followers and fans of his new style of emo rap, including popular musician Post Malone.

“In the short time that i knew you, you were a great friend to me and a great person. your music changed the world and it’ll never be the same. i love you bud. Forever,” Post Malone tweeted upon hearing the news of Lil Peep’s death.

Peep wrote lyrics touching many sensitive subjects such as suicide, depression, past relationships, and drug abuse. His songs have been described as “diabolically melodic” by New York Times Music critic Jon Caramnica.

Lil Peep’s death, which is a speculated overdose, but cannot be confirmed until the toxicology report comes back in 6-8 weeks, has ignited a media conversation on the topic of drug abuse and the addiction epidemic.

“Of course the drug abuse epidemic is being brought to light here, but he was a kid and he died, let’s try not to play the blame game,” said Morgan Hear, 11.
