Ms. Anderson, the choir director, has been offering swing dance lessons for Mt. Vernon High School students on Tuesdays and Thursdays during SRT to generate buzz about the choir’s folk and jazz concert. The last swing dance lesson was offered after school on Tuesday, September 26.

“I have been here three times so far, and I think it is fun,” said Mia Pacey, 9. “It is really good for people who are not experienced in dancing. It is just a great introduction to dancing.”

Originating from Harlem, New York, swing dancing is a dance style that has a swinging feel, as it goes well with the jazz music of the 1920s to the 1950s. Several examples of swing dancing are the lindy hop, Charleston, and balboa.

The folk and jazz concert is at 7pm on Friday, September 29, in the high school cafeteria.
