Trial Swift

After a six day trial that included four days of testimony, David Mueller was found guilty on August 14th on charges of assault and battery. He was convicted of groping pop star Taylor Swift during a meet and greet in 2013 while getting a photo.

Mueller claimed that he did no such thing, but may have brushed against her while “jostling” to get their photo.

“This was not jostling,” Swift said during her testimony. “He did not touch my rib. He did not touch my arm…He grabbed my bare a**.”

Swift’s mother was present at the trial, and provided testimony that Taylor had been visibly upset after the incident, saying that after she heard what had happened she “wanted to vomit and cry at the same time.”

Mueller attempted to sue Swift in 2015 for three million dollars with claims that Swift had ruined his career by contacting the radio station he worked for at the time and causing his termination. He is now seeking almost 260,000 dollars in damages.

Swift will receive a symbolic $1 for her victory. Her main purpose in bringing this case to court was not money, but providing a voice for those who feel they have been silenced by sexual assault.

“My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves,” Swift said in a statement following the trial.
