Members of MVHS a capella rehearse with instructor Miss Anderson.

On Monday, July 24th, the a capella groups had a camp to kick off the start of the year. From Monday to Wednesday the groups had practice, games, and a performance from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I joined a capella halfway through the year last year as the vocal percussionist, and I do not regret my decision. The members of Formation have become my sisters, and I have also become well acquainted with the mixed group, Locked Out.

During the camp, we got a head start and practiced songs that we are going to be able to perform throughout the school year at competitions, football games, pep rallies, or other activities. It’s really fun to hear popular songs sung without any additional musical instruments.

From the first day of camp to our performance at freshman orientation, the amount we have progressed is really amazing. Every single person in a cappella is passionate about what they are doing and it really makes a difference when learning songs.

“A cappella camp went really well for me,” said Emily Hupp, 11.  Having this retreat allowed the groups to get a head start on our music for the year, and it was a wonderful opportunity to get to know my groupmates.”

I believe this year is going to be great for a cappella. We have so many amazing opportunities to show off our groups and entertain people. So far, we have schedules to perform at sports events, local restaurants, holiday specials, and a cappella trips.
