2.5 years of newspaper

Ashley Offenbach, News Editor

Newspaper may only be a thirty minute class each day, but it is worth it. As long as you manage your time the class will be a breeze.

By breaking the newspaper up into stags, or small groups, it becomes easier to meet deadlines and stay on track.

Since it has become much easier to meet deadlines, the class could be an easy A, unless you are just not trying.

The class gives students the freedom to choose what they write about and execute it in the way they want.

Students may choose what stories to write, who they get quotes from, and what pictures would go best with what stories.

Not only is this all true, but the newspaper staff becomes a family and it gives the opportunity to get close to one another.

There are usually 20 people on staff and you interact with all of them on a daily basis, so they become like a family.

Many events and fundraisers also occur throughout the year. This year the fundraisers we did were a dog wash and drawings for free car wash tickets on our social media accounts.

We also do many events throughout the year. The biggest event the newspaper attends is Journalism Day at Ball State University at the end of the year. There are sessions to attend where journalists learn to become better writers.

If being on task and organization comes naturally to you and writing or photography is a passion, newspaper is the place for you. If these are not easy, newspaper is still the place for you, it just requires more work and effort.

The newspaper staff is always looking for new writers and photographers, and it normally raises your high school GPA, so consider taking the class.

I took newspaper for two and a half years, since the middle of sophomore year, and I wish I would have started earlier.
