Golf team takes a swing

The 2017 boys’ golf team this year has won many matches.

In their first match against Yorktown, Mount Vernon won first place with a score of 316.

On April 15, the golf team got seventh place at the Center Grove Invitational with a score of 335.

On Monday, April 17, the golf team placed first against the golf teams of Yorktown and Lapel with a score of 149. Yorktown had 164 and Lapel had a score of 174.

Mount Vernon, on Thursday, April 20, defeated Pendleton Heights High School 151-167.

On Saturday, April 22, the golf team placed first in the Mount Vernon Invitational with a score of 343. Lawrence North’s golf team placed second with 363 points, Rushville placed third with 370 points, Franklin placed fourth with 395 points, Daleville placed fifth with 399 points, Morristown placed sixth with 399 points, Greenfield-Central placed seventh with 429 points, and Eastern Hancock placed last with a score of 430 points.

“We’re doing good. We have more matches than last year,” said Xavier Dunham, 11. “It’s a good season so far, but we haven’t quite reached out potential yet.”

On Thursday, April 27, Mount Vernon placed second in a match with HSE and Lawrence North with 167 points.  

The golf team beat New Palestine 153-173 on Monday, May 1.

On Tuesday, May 2, the MV boy’s golf team placed first at the Hancock County Tournament at Hawks Tail with a score of 164.

Mount Vernon beat Trition Central High School 147-176 on Wednesday, May 3.

The boys golf team once again came in first place against Rushville Consolidated High School with the scire 166-209.

On Friday, May 12, the boys beat Shelbyville High School 157-169.

The next day, Mount Vernon placed second place in the HHC tournament with a score of 312.

Mount Vernon came in first place on Monday, May 15, against New Palestine and Greenfield-Central with a score of 190.

The boy’s team once again comes in first place against Lawrence North with a score of 188-202.

Overall, the golf team won all of their single matches, got first two times, seventh, and second two times in a tournament, won country, got second in conference, and is looking to win sectionals.
