The book truly is better than the movie

Books and the movies made based off of those books can be very different. One of these book and movie duos is “Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.” Now, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the Percy Jackson books. I love all 17 of them, but the movies aren’t my favorite movies in the whole world.

In the books, Tyson is protecting Percy during the school year because he is a cyclops. Percy has a friendship with Tyson, and he has no clue who he is. In the movie, Tyson just kind of shows up. In the book, Percy, who is very connected to this kid, denies that they are really brothers. This hurts Tyson. In the book, Tyson is seen more as a loveable little brother type of person. In the movie, he’s just some noisy guy.

In the movie, it’s not as heartfelt because Percy never knew Tyson and now he has a cyclops brother.

Tyson is also dumbed down in the book. In the movie he brings up something that Annabeth isn’t even aware of, and she is the smartest person in the whole series.

Another part I wish is in the movie is Circe’s Spa. I really wanted to see Percy get turned into a guinea pig. I wanted there to be jokes about it through the rest of the movie. Also, the book has the ship they are on blow up and Tyson supposedly die. The movie has him get shot by an arrow to save Percy. I actually had no problems with this change. It felt a bit more personal to have Tyson get shot saving Percy. But also, I feel like the explosion redeemed him in the eyes of all of the other demigods. Tyson is blown up trying to save all of their lives, not just Percy’s.

One part I had a real problem with is that the Princess Andromeda is the tiniest cruise ship I have ever seen. It is supposed to be full of monsters.  They are supposed to be mortals on board and a mall inside the ship. We got this tiny baby ship that Luke has about three other people on. What is this?

I believe that this book is better that the movie. The movie is nothing like the book at all, and the book is more personal in my opinion.
