Women’s March

Following President Trump’s inauguration on Friday, January 20th, there was a major growth of protests. One was the Women’s March. This march was separate from the protest that happened during Trump’s inauguration. These protests took place all around the world, mainly in the United States. Some major cities that participated were  Washington DC, Los Angeles, and Indianapolis.

The rally in Indianapolis consisted of thousands of men, women, and children. They gathered for many reasons, a big one being women’s reproductive rights. Those who gathered and supported these motives wanted to show that it is their body, their decision, and that the new president could not, or should not be able to, change that.

There was also protesting that day for LGBTQ rights, police brutality, and women’s equality generally.

The Women’s March in Indianapolis was a sister march for the one in Washington, DC. This march in D.C. was huge. Over one million people attended the Washington march. They were marching for the same reason as people in Indianapolis.

All over, there were sales of t-shirts, hats, and other items for marchers to buy. These items had different slogans and memorabilia. Many of the items for sale used direct, derogatory quotes from President Trump, especially those dealing with his proposed policies toward women, members of the LGBT+ community and immigrants. This merchandise was a big hit at the march, making good money for local causes.

This march just went to show that when there are humans passionate about a cause, they can share their opinions over this cause peacefully. The day was not one big riot, but instead a day of support and teamwork.
