Girls’ swimming and diving sectionals and state

The girls’ swim team had Sectionals on Saturday, February 4th. The meet started at 1 in the afternoon and ended at 5. The girls’ roster included Lydia Tierney, 11; Madalyn Mull, 10; Charlie True, 10; Zoey Musick, 10; Madeline King, 12;  Isabelle Grandstaff, 10; Riley Chambers, 12; Elizabeth Ahonen, 9; and Riese Thornton, 9.

The 200 Medley relay started off Mount Vernon with Tierney swimming backstroke, Musick swimming breaststroke, Mull swimming butterfly, and Chambers swimming freestyle.

Next, Music and True competed in the 200 yard freestyle.

After that, Tierney and Mull competed in the 200 yard IM, which is 50 yards of each stroke, in the order of butterfly, backstroke, breastroke, and freestyle.

In the last event before the 15 minute break, Chambers and King swam the 50 yard freestyle.

After the break, Tierney, Mull, and Ahonen competed in the 100 yard butterfly.

Chambers then swam event seven, the 100 yard freestyle.

After the 100 yard freestyle, True swam the 500 yard freestyle, which is the distance race.

The second relay was the 200 yard freestyle relay. The swimmers swam in the following order: Musick, True, Chambers, and Tierney.

Grandstaff swam the 100 yard backstroke in the second heat.

Musick then swam event eleven, the 100 yard breaststroke.

Finally, the final event of sectionals was the 400 yard freestyle relay. The swimmers were Mull, Thornton, King, and True.

Both Tierney and King will continue to state, which took place on February 10.

Overall, Mount Vernon girls’ team got fourth place out of eight. Greenfield won the meet.

At state, Tierney placed 12th in the 100 yard butterfly and 16th place in the 200 yard IM. King placed 24th in diving.
